I don’t know about you, but all this V-day talk makes me want to kiss my hubby and leave a nice red mark on his cheeks. What is it with red lips being so damn sexy? Anyway, I didn’t grow up in a home where you show your affection – my parents sometimes kissed in front of us, but there were no hugs or random kisses. French people don’t really do hugs in general. Oh they do kisses alright, a lot, but as a way to greet people more than anything. Where I come from you actually kiss people you don’t know THREE OR FOUR TIMES on the cheeks to greet them, and the people you know you only kiss ONCE…isn’t that weird?!! And anyway, kissing and hugging was just not part of my parent’s world. Not that there is anything wrong with that, they loved us, it was what it was, but now that I have my own little family, I think it’s so important to show affection. I want my kids to see that their parents love each other, and I want them to feel loved too. So ready, set…pucker up!

That’s crazy that the French kiss people they don’t know tons of times and then someone you know once!! My boyfriend hates when he has lipstick on him…I always found it odd…But oh well! I still wear red lipstick! =)
It’s not like this everywhere in France. Other parts of France (the North, by Belgium) do the opposite – one kiss for the people they don’t know and 3 for the ones they know. Strange cultural differences
When I lived in Paris (in my early 20s what seems like a million years ago) I remember the culture shock of greeting people, usually strangers, with three and sometimes four kisses. But I liked the tradition – it felt so personal and even though it was customary, it also felt really sincere. Growing up I spent a lot of time in Argentina where my dad is from and they kiss as a greeting there too. I never saw people doing that in the US and even still when you meet a new person you usually just shake hands and reserve kisses (single kisses) for friends and family. I grew up in a house where we were constantly kissing each other and hugging and at home with my own little family we do that too. When I first met my husband he used to say all the time that he loved how my parents and I kissed every time we saw each other and how they kiss him too. Anyway, I’m with you — kiss your kids as much as you can
As for the lipsticks, I’ve been obsessed with bright lipsticks since the summer! It’s not always for every day but it’s such a fun way to add color and it can really change your entire look.

You’re right, it’s very sincere, and it’s nice in it’s own way – just very different from what Americans are used to! And I wish I wore more bright lipstick – not quite used to it yet, but working on it
I’ve never thought of it that way, that is such a funny custom when you think about it! I love everything about this… kisses are the best.
They are indeed!!!
et moi je te fais plein de bisous! muah!
I wear my red lipstick sometimes, I hope we did not shop together for nothing: you have to wear yours more often!
